Kiku Obata & Company
The Counterpublic Carriage House has been reimagined by the brilliant architects and designers of Kiku Obata & Company, a design consultancy specializing in identity, editorial and environmental design. Founded in 1977, the studio remains a design-led practice undertaking a diverse range of work in the fields of art, culture, commerce and the public realm. Kiku Obata, David Leavey, and Dennis Hyland have created a welcoming, intentional center built for the dynamicity of Counterpublic’s initiatives.
St. Louis is home to several projects in which Kiku Obata & Company have played a key role: The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s Powell Hall renovation, St. Louis CITY SC’s Energizer Park, and the Pulitzer Arts Foundation’s Spring Church, to name a few.
eatoutside
We are thrilled to announce our partnership with eatoutside, a culinary organization founded by Chef Enoch Simpson. For the Carriage House, Chef Enoch has created an original menu featuring seasonal and farm-sourced items all stewarded alongside our Climate Impact Strategy. Grab a grilled tofu noodle salad and lemon crepe cake before heading out on a tour of the exhibitions.
“Sustainability and community support guide everything I do. I implement practices like composting and waste reduction in my kitchen, and I’m involved in outreach initiatives that aim to support the unhoused community. I believe that food has the power to bring people together and foster positive change.”
– Chef Enoch
By emphasizing environmentally responsible practices, Counterpublic aims to build a roadmap for more sustainable approaches to triennial production. In the process, we hope to reimagine the role of art and exhibitions to promote the lasting health and safety of our communities and ecosystems in the context of a changing climate.
