Sebastián Llovera

Sebastián Llovera is a Venezuelan artist based in St. Louis, United States. His practice subverts dominant instruments and methods of knowledge production by exploring the dynamics between what is defined as nature, culture, and technology. Through “speculative collaborations” with systems such as machine learning algorithms and fungi, he reexamines the concept of agency in search of lateral, integrative ways of knowing and acting within the world. Driven by a seemingly disparate range of influences, from science and epistemology to the tropical and its popular cultures, from extractivism to forced migration, his work combines media from different moments in time and space, resulting in experiences that articulate a marginal, hybrid knowledge.

His work has been exhibited internationally at Salón ACME 10 (Mexico), Centrul de Interes (Romania), CICA Museum of Contemporary Art (South Korea), and the Museo de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Bogotá), among other venues. His recognition includes First Place at the XXII Salón de Jóvenes con FIA (Caracas, Venezuela) and a nomination for the CIFO Ars Electronica Prize 2022-23.
