Micah Mickles

Micah Mickles is a St. Louis-based interdisciplinary artist with a background in photography, printmaking, and drawing. He is currently a Master of Fine Arts student at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. His art practice is focused on exploring the intersections of language, industrial symbols, and the food supply chain. To do so, he sources inexpensive materials from grocery retail spaces and repurposes them to create thought-provoking works that challenge the viewer to re-examine the way they think about these issues. One of Mickles' key areas of focus is the relationship between First and Third World countries and the ways in which the global food system perpetuates inequality. In his work, Mickles often draws attention to the exploitation of resources and labor in developing countries that is necessary to sustain the consumerist habits of developed nations.
