Site Description
Accessibility: Free parking is available in a gravel parking lot north of the warehouse and along Chouteau Avenue. This warehouse has been temporarily modified to be ADA accessible for the exhibition. There are outdoor ADA-accessible restrooms and ramps into the exhibition space. The interior floors are concrete and may be uneven in some areas. The silo is not ADA accessible.

About the Artwork
Raised in East Los Angeles in a family that immigrated from Mexico, Guadalupe Rosales explores the visual cultures that emerge from the resilience of Latinx communities in Los Angeles and beyond. slippin’ into darkness, a pink car, is a functional low-rider sculpture made from a 1991 white Honda Accord. This “lesbian lowrider” is a nod to Los Angeles car culture. In a field often associated with masculinity and public display, Rosales’s intervention highlights community, belonging, and joy. On the hood, the artist (shown as a blue angel) and her partner (a red devil) are locked in an embrace, looking out at the viewer. Clouds, stars, and stylized thorns frame the couple. slippin’ into darkness presents an alternative to an exclusive activity with softness, tenderness, and care.
