About the Artwork
Emma McCormick Goodhart is an artist, writer, researcher, and dramaturge who experiments with deep-time histories of the senses, especially in sound and scent. Connected to stone-based scenography is a double-sided neon sign written in Osage for โproximityโ (๐ฐ๐ช๐ฐ๐) and โdistanceโ (๐ค๐ช๐ฐ๐): respectively, โthat, those, over here, on this (closer) sideโ and โthat, those, over there, on the other (farther) side.โ
Together, neon and rock suggest wayfinding as a sensory practice. One is read at a distance; the other through touch.
The words come from the artistโs dialogue with Osage language scholar Braxton Redeagle.
