Tracing Histories, Workshop

Date: Saturday, May 27, 2023

Time: 1-3PM

Location: Central Print, 2624 North 14th Street

Details:

During this “Tracing Histories” workshop, participants will engage in discussion and collaborative map-making activities based on St. Louis histories, especially those that have been erased. Through comparison of early maps of St. Louis City from the late 19th century with more contemporary maps, participants will reconstruct lost communities by using printmaking methods, such as stenciling and stamping. These additive printing methods simulate the overlapping of structures and neighborhoods that have contributed to the erasure of histories. In addition to working on large, collaborative maps, groups and individuals will have an opportunity to create a personal map of the St. Louis that they know best.

This public program is a family workshop open to all ages!

This workshop is led and organized by Carrie Keasler, Artist and Instructor (MFA-IVC student at Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Art; Participant in Memory For the Future, a Public Humanities StudioLab), with support from Marie Oberkirsch, Director of Central Print.
