Highlight: 2023 Fellowships

Join us in welcoming the recipients of two Counterpublic Fellowships, Micah Mickles and Ousmane Gaye!

Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts Fellow

Counterpublic and the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts are excited to welcome Micah Mickles as the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts Fellow.

Mickles is supporting the curatorial and exhibitions teams, working closely with artists, curators, and exhibitions staff towards the realization and activation of artist commissions. Mickles is working with artists and curators to develop program plans for each commission and with the exhibitions team on installation and project support. Following the April 15th opening date, the Fellow will support the realization of weekly public programs, assist in project oversight and maintenance, and will work with the visitor services team to engage key host sites.

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Growing Griot Fellow

The Griot Museum of Black History is proud to welcome Ousmane Gaye as the Growing Griot Fellow. This fellowship is supported by the Mellon Foundation and is a partnership between Counterpublic, the Saint Louis Art Museum, and the Griot Museum and will support the capacity of The Griot and train conservation techniques.

The fellowship endows Gaye as the recipient for two years to develop new, and nurture existing, programmatic engagements, educational outreach, and community partnerships, and oversee conservation efforts. The fellowship is initiated in relation to the creation of Sir David Adjaye’s Asaase III - a major rammed earth sculpture that is the acclaimed architect’s first permanent public artwork, curated by Allison Glenn for Counterpublic 2023.
