Rodolfo Marron III
Site: Diana’s Bakery + Latinos en Axión
Rodolfo Marron III has collaborated with Cherokee neighborhood anchor Diana’s Bakery and grassroots immigration advocacy group Latinos en Axión to create an installation featuring familiar items from the store owners and customized galleta (Mexican cookie) reading “¡Aquí Estamos - Estamos Aquí.” Marron examines how language connects Latino communities by using an enigmatic phrase that can be seen as a prayer, chant, or act of resistance. Aquí Estamos - Estamos Aquí can suggest a stance indicating resolve: we are here and will continue to be here despite changing neighborhood and national dynamics. Or, it may be viewed as a cry for help: we must be seen and heard during this time of need. The galletas will be distributed throughout the run of Counterpublic both at Diana’s and The Luminary, as well as at other taquerias, shops, and restaurants with all proceeds benefiting Latinos en Axión.
